Construction in a developed area is a delicate process. There are a number of utility lines that run along the roadways. These include telephone, gas, television, electric, water, storm drainage and sewer utilities.
Service lines need to be identified and usually carefully removed and relocated. These activities can be hazardous and must be highly coordinated between utility and roadway construction crews. Construction must often cease as these lines are identified, service is shut off and lines are relocated.
When planned service interruptions are necessary, business owners and residents will be notified in advance. With so much activity on a construction site, sometimes service is inadvertently interrupted. NDOT will communicate and coordinate the correction of unplanned interruptions as quickly as possible.
